LESYA UKRAINKA VOLYN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY IS A PARTNER OF THE TOWN AND GOWN 2.0 PROJECT OF THE INTERNATIONAL VISEGRAD FUND
The National University of Ostroh Academy in partnership with Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University and the National University of Water and Environment Engineering launched The Town and Gown 2.0: The Strategic Cooperation Between University and City in V4 and Ukraine project supported by the International Visegrad Fund. The first event “Academic City: Visegrad Group Experience” held in Ostroh on September 15-17th, 2021 was focused on the experience of the Visegrad Group countries in creating an academic city and the universities’ contribution to the development of the region.
Larysa Zasiekina, Vice-Rector for Research and International Affairs, and Vladyslav Kolomechiuk, Head of the International Relations Office, took part in the event as the project coordinators from Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University. The event was also attended by Iryna Hlova, Head of the Research Unit, Maksym Voichuk, Postdoctoral fellow, Deputy Head of Lutsk Youth Council, as well as representatives of Lutsk, Rivne, and Ostroh city councils.
Mariusz Sagan, Director of the Strategy and Entrepreneurship department, and Wiktoria Herun, Head of the HEI’s Support department of the City of Lublin Council, shared their experiences of creating an academic city. The experts highlighted the role of universities in implementing the city’s strategy, developing the city’s academic potential, and the benefits of cooperation between the university and the city.
Among the representatives from the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin were Michal Wyrostkiewicz and Albert Nowacki who presented the main areas of cooperation between their university and the city of Lublin, as well as research on the university impact on the city’s development.
In addition, participants were able to take part in a panel discussion and exchange experience with the discussed issues, gain useful knowledge and interesting solutions.
The second meeting of the partners is to take place at Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University in Lutsk. The workshop “Innovation and Industry for Security: Visegrad Group Experience” is to be held on October 6-9th, 2021.
